Am I a Psychopath? (Psychology Documentary) | Real Stories

Meet Sam Vaknin, author of the book Malignant Self Love. Sam knows he’s a supreme narcissist, but is he also, as he suspects, a psychopath? To find out, he becomes the world’s first civilian volunteer to be thoroughly tested for psychopathy.

Along the way, Vaknin encounters the minefield of scientific, ethical, moral and social issues involved in owning that label. When things don’t quite go his way, he turns on the film-makers, unleashing vicious displays of verbal abuse, and some free psychological analysis of his own.

Then, there’s his wife Lidija. She wants a baby, but isn’t sure that Sam is suitable parent material. And to make things worse, Lidija’s sister believes she’s been brainwashed by her twelve years with Sam.

I, Psychopath is a classic road trip/head trip movie, with a strong narrative, jeopardy, a cast of engaging characters and an irreverent gonzo style.

The real question is whether he is as intelligent as he claims.
    Simple answer- NO

His own narcissism compromises his assessments as a physiologist or as a serious mind.
Seriously people, there are other minds who understand more than SAMMY BOY on the subject matter of narcissism.
He is a mind that knows how to exploit his times at best, a hustler.

Sam is more so a classic narcissist than a clinical psychopath, although the disorders do overlap. The irony is of course, that the only people who ever seem to call themselves "psychopaths" are narcissists, and never actual psychopaths. The claim in and of itself usually reveal such a personality disorder. I see this time and time again. Often because they want to seem "cool," "special," and "fascinating/mysterious."

I dont know if he is or isnt a psychopath, but if he is.. then I wish they were all like him. Cause if I saw him at a party, I'd definitely stay away from him. Some people might see self promotion like this as "confidence" though.. so I can see someone talking to him.

Seems like the film director has a need to be the special one. Like most film makers. He's not really vulnerable or a victim. (Though he makes himself an easy target) He just clashed with film subject. Multiple things he said were very telling. Why bother making a documentary like this and be unprepared or expect the subject to thank you or be your buddy.

I'm a little freaked out I immediately picked the right walker though. I just have an instinct with these things. I think I walk like her too a little.

It's kinda like dissociation from the body maybe? You think about each movement a little more (not completely fluid and subconscious in control like others might be). When I was younger I would often knock into things. Also her head was kept straight as she thought about her destination. But I am unsure, this is only instinctual ideas I'd really like to learn more about the actual reasons. Super interesting. The whole documentary was. It was very cool seeing the testing done too. I think his recordings showed much more about the subject and people around him than he realized.

(The secretly recorded insults were brutal. But then why even respond when you hear someone say that? I laughed he told him to pick his nose. Horrible rude but also childish, yet it must have really dug at the director's pride. I really shouldn't take the subject's side but I just found him more likeable believe it or not. More honest and interesting at least. The director was trying to turn the wife and others against the subject behind his back. It was actually kinda comical, to see him dissatisfied and be just as hostile as was predicted.

Of course I wouldn't laugh in his shoes! But he had really not prepared for what he was working with: A film about a sadistic narcissist who was testing for psychopathy.)

I should feel bad for the film maker. But he should have known a little of what he was getting into.

I bet the more Vaknin insulted and upsetted him, the harder it made him want to work. And the result is a pretty interesting documentary.

Narcissists have one thing going on, they can be very interesting to watch. So the director shouldn't take that so personally.

Unknown to the filmmaker the woman taking the test of of Sam might have asked for his credential details as a way to ilicit a reaction, and she got it… of course she knew it was a diploma mill when she did her research, she studies this stuff.

The behaviour exhibited by Vaknin was a replica of my ex ! Heart went out to the film maker as he was verbally and psychologically abused …I can still remember that brain freezing rush of fear as the abuser whips up an unexpected and irrational conflict and hones in for the kill even years later ! Vaknin is a monster ….an intellectual high functioning one but a monster nonetheless. He was obviously rattled by the questioning of his having a Ph.D credential; his defensiveness and offence says it all …? Great documentary with some real luminaries of the research field included.

His PhD is real. Try to read his work on time as a particle expression. He just isn't impressed with the University that awarded it to him after 2 years of study. This guy's I.Q. is over 190. That in itself is reason enough to believe that His brain would function abnormally. He stated on a recent video that he considered himself very smart but unwise. I didn't see one minute of proof that the film maker tried to be nice to him. Wouldn't you include some footage of you trying to get along with him?

For your amusement or bewilderment – if you go to Sam's website you'll see that he and his wife are available for counseling sessions.

As for Lydia, I think that she is convinced that Sam is the best she could get. Mind you, that he's intelligent and has managed to gather quite a huge crowd of viewers. He might not be a compassionate and loving person a woman would desire but at least he's not mediocre and boring and at least pretends to have a deep insight into his psyche.

I think he's a diploma mill psychopath 100% 😂and I think he was raised with an empathic mother. This is why he is better with his wife. I don't think he's honest. He's pretending to be honest in pursuit of truth. He is NUTSO and functioning because of his wife. If she goes, he'll end up in a nut house. I don't care what the last doctor said.
