J. Krishnamurti – Ojai 1982 – Discussion with Scientists 1 – Roots of psychological disorder

J. Krishnamurti – Ojai 1982 – Discussion with Scientists 1 – Roots of psychological disorder

Summary:

Q: What is the source of psychological disorder?

Is not the self the beginning of all disorder?

I have created society through my anxiety, through my desire for security, through my desire to have power. Like the animal. It’s biologically inherited. Also my own individualistic activity has created this society. Is it possible to be free of my conditioning?

If my relationship with life is not “right” how can I find out something that’s immensely beyond all this, beyond time, beyond thought, beyond measure?

Will knowledge transform me?

Is there a deep, abiding security?

This channel is managed by the Krishnamurti Foundation Trust, UK, and by the Krishnamurti Foundation of America.

The role of the foundations was described by Krishnamurti when he said, ’The foundations will see to it that these teachings are kept whole, are not distorted, are not made corrupt. They will not give rise to any sectarian spirit in their activities… nor create any kind of place of worship around the teachings or the person.’

We maintain extensive archives of Krishnamurti’s original works and all four Krishnamurti foundations are actively engaged in the publication of material in various forms.

Our videos contain thousands of subtitles in more than 25 languages, translated by volunteers from all over the world. If you would like to help us with translating subtitles, please contact us at digital@kfoundation.org

Love Krishnamurti. If you ever read his biography which is fascinating you will see that he was specifically reared to be the "messiah" and highly trained in various ways until he decided to discard it all and walk away. But you could say ge reached enlightenment and when you reach enlightenment you no longer need anything. But he never seems to acknowledge that although it is an instantaeneous event, looking inside and finishing with it, it still takes time and all kinds of methods to learn HOW to go inside and look at yourself…. yes people get carried away and become attached to their religions or dogmas etc… but Buddhism for example teaches exactly what he teaches, there is no saviour in Buddhism, it says 'there is suffering'.. 'there are causes to the suffering'.. 'because there are causes there is an end to suffering'.. 'therefore there are ways to end suffering'… so i started with Krishnamurti and ended up in Buddhism because it acknowledges that it will take different amounts of time for different people before the penny finally drops. Plus you have to really learn and see for yourself where you continue to perpetuate your own suffering. 🤔

J Krishnamurti wants to kill conflict among people, but whats wrong in conflict ? the more deep question may be what is right and what is wrong ? they probably did not reach on real discussion.

What about being naked? we are conditioned not to be naked, can we get rid of it? It is different from pain, which is impossible to get rid of. But being naked won't affect any such thing, but we can't get rid of the clothes and walk in a street.

Annoying because Krishnamurthy keeps changing the premises off the discussion so he can keep control of it. A real inquirer would allow others to complete their thoughts and arguments. Frustrating, because the other minds there are genuine in their participation, he just has a knee- jerk need to win an argument, any argument, by continually changing the terms of the discussion.

Free will (choose otherwise) verses determinism (conditioning) tends towards a philosophical circularity. Materialists favor conditioning, though soul theorists favor free will.

I’m 7 minutes in, and although I will enjoy this discourse, I feel these scientists have already got off on the wrong foot; language. “Suffering”? If I were look in my cells, would I see “suffering”? Would I see my name? I don’t think so.

Life is about being yourself ( see, feel or touch)… example when you die your life ends. I can only play my part being selfless and help other life to see through his or her anonymity. Life is only what I can see and death cannot be seen.

In 1987, I was diagnosed with type 1 Bipolar Disorder (aka manic depressive illness). I have been hospitalized in psychiatric hospitals on numerous occasions. Before this year, the last time I was hospitalized for a manic episode was in June of 2000.

My identification as a separate self has been dissolving but evidently was not completely evaporated because I had another manic episode in June of this year. Interestingly, I can validate from personal experience that identification is the ultimate cause of all psychological disorder and suffering.

I have sat in this room at the Krishnamurti library and have been exploring nonduality with a nonduality teacher called Sailor Bob Adamson who I was introduced to by a Hale Dwoskin who taught me a letting go technique called the Sedona Method.

My happy ending to the story of my most recent manic episode was that my delusions of grandeur (one symptom of bipolar disorder) fell away without the support of medicine in my second night of hospitalization and I attribute that to the following question which arose in my head:

If I don’t go to an imagined past or focus on a body/mind/story (which I know I am not), can I find the separate self or entity who can be special, grand, worse, or better than anything or anyone else?

The answer to the above question always returns my mind to the nothingness that I truly am and dissolves any sense of self. I highly recommend that question if you ever catch yourself not being able to release psychological suffering.

At the start of this, K. made the fundamental point about self-centredness being the main problem with mental illnesses and therefore constant suffering of humans. Yes, I thought, that is it! Then the scientists completely ignored it. We are partly animals, but we go beyond that stage, surely.

Humanity is inextricably bound to its conditioning tethers. It is simultaneously exalting its members and dragging them under. The notion that the entirety of humankind shall one day, in this mortal plane, achieve enlightenment is folly.

Collectives cannot collectively think, act and speak in the way Krishnamurti is advocating…in an individualistic way…it's paradoxical and yet ironic that each and every individual is a part of a collective that thinks, acts and speaks in the same agenda and protocol.

IIn my humble opinion it is matter of a real human education where the child would be fully respected

the nature of chaos and order in nature can see in self-suffering but the self-centered humans won't see a thing in this constructed cultural dilemma – a fundamental change is a change coming within. It is a contradiction to this conditioned society-the society won't let you do anything cos of the conditioning. Change is freedom and self-awakening freedom can threaten the conditioned society as a whole- which is very contradictive rather they say radical in west-irony of a false society

Fascinating to see three great minds completely stumped by Krishnamurti's enquiry. He asks the fundamental questions that we are uncomfortable contemplating, because we are, by and large, completely bound by our mental constructs.

He should of followed his theosophical instructors though cause even though he is really enlightened he lacks the real proper soular impress of intelligent exposition as did Blavatsky in my opinion. He was a young disciple of a serious individual before he broke away with a strong belief theosophy became a fixed system but if u have a problem with something that sensitive there is no way u can live save as a god or beast or human. Knowledge is the way to understand and operate in the world in an immortal body.

I may be overthinking it well in this case over feeling it which reveals more than I bargained for while watching this. To really sit here and watch this video file with zero bias seems to be really an experiment of hope. With that said – entering this video with the capacity to know their is in fact a strong potential for our emotional hinge to seek a union and still be baffled by Krishnamurti and his final point is something to either accept or reject.

In the end it's a strong point, possibly diabolical therefore uncomfortably left, in how we as individuals who are by nature divisible still have a longing need to hold unshakable proofs of life.

Practical questions posed in a context in my suspicion where it may not have gone.
