When Rogan talks less, he can make sense sometimes. But, when he talks too much he gets lost in the weeds of his own perceived wisdom.

Defunding the police means reallocating the money to other programs that will help the cops. The example of Mexico has horrible. The really problem in Mexico is a lot deeper than not having cops or not finding the cops

This is nothing but a big circle jerk around the point. Defunding the police? Turning it into a cartel like city? You cant say those things without acknowledging why it got to the point where people want to defund the police. It's police misconduct and brutality. We need to figure out how to get rid of the current police culture because no amount of training is going to help. Because old dog don't want to learn new tricks. My abuser and my savior should not be the same person.

I think the police should get their message out better. Why they do the things they do. Why they never aim for limbs. Why they don’t use a taser on a knife wielding suspect. Why they can’t let a suspect beat them in a fight. There’s reasons for everything they do

How about we train society to respect law enforcement and stop committing crimes? Pretty sure no one gets shot by police while working.

Damn joe..I usually agree with…defunding the police doesn't mean we don't need police. Defund police means some of those funds are diverted for social calls. Too many times cops don't have the training to deal with mentally challenged ppl.

In the academy you have to meet the physical standards. The problem is that there isn't any particular set of universal standards. Each one has their own. On top of that recruitment is down so pushing people through is a real thing (this also happens in the military and other organizations.) Once the officer is in the field the stresses can take over people who were fit before, lose that edge. If the trainee wasn't already living a fitness oriented life and had a healthy relationship with healthy foods, they have a severe likelihood of becoming "one of those overweight cops." The standards do need to be higher and regimented yearly if you ask me. The comment about most cops not being able to shoot well is also true.

The job doesn't require shooting every day. It's very rare to be in an officer involved shooting. However the paperwork, radio traffic, speaking to people who hate you and trying to eat at some point, are all daily occurrences. Specialized units do have higher standards but those units are being defunded which is absolutely terrible for the community. Good proactive cops are obviously the backbone of stopping day to day crime, however specialized units take down the head of the snake sometimes and that in combination with proactive patrol officers, REALLY has a positive effect on the community. JUS SAYIN.

“Defund the police”, meanwhile cops all around America are getting Overtime hours, bringing home more money in their pockets each time there is a protest.

You can’t train out prejudice, bigotry and racism that’s instilled in a person that decides to become a officer and the main problem is the so called good cops don’t call out the bad ones. The president doesn’t acknowledge the bad ones, the ones who murder, and he speaks directly to the racist cops.

De-funding the Please is just speaker and I don’t believe all the training in the world is going to stop bad people but it will help. The old cop cop walking the beat I’m sure would help but not a cure all. And I think you’re right Fitness is important for the mental and physical health of the police.

Joe you are a 100% right about most police officers being out of shape and not being proficient with their guns. It’s embarrassing. The sad truth is the guys I worked with over the years take training in their own hands and pay for their own training on top of what they do with their agency.

Defund the police is about more social workers/Healthcare workers and a few less cops. The idea is instead of escalation, its about deescalation. Can we do more training for the police, sure. I don't think anyone is against more training.

@Joe Rogan it isn't 1 cop who did a bad thing, its actually a lot of cops. We are seeing misdemeanors escalated into murder. We've seen black men murdered after telling a police officer, "hey I do have a gun in the car" (castile) or made the mistake of simply shopping and picking up a toy gun in a walmart (john crawford).

Its also easy to look at the social media outrage and assume its rampant everywhere. The cops here, no one spits on them. No one is openly disrespectful. Are there spots right now where people are challenging police, sure. Consider though “Qualified immunity” aka license to kill. Consider the differences in experience when anyoung white male goes into a city (not his own) that is experiencing civil disturbance to "protect property" not his own ends up shooting and killing people, look how he was treated by the police.

I'd also ask you to look at how Colin Kaepernick's peaceful protest against police brutality was framed into protest against the military.

When you start putting things in place, its not actually all that surprising or shocking whats happening. Remember Martin Luther King said, "a riot is the language of the unheard".

In regards to the violence uptick in NYC, consider the police union. They have actively in the past resisted change by intentionally not doing their job

a lot of agencies want physical fitness standards however there are people in there that don't want those standards because of all the lawsuits from tiny females or fat men that can't pass the standard to get in. So they get a lawyer and sue.
Many departments don't have the funding for any extra training.
I heard this lady talking to a police officer. She wanted to know why her deaf son couldn't be a police officer. She said it was wrong that they were discriminating against him and that was illegal. That's part of the problem they just don't have a clue.

Honestly the problem is not going to go away with more training, because the problem is non-existent when you consider the population size vs. the number of unjustified instances. Also, training exercises will never be able to fully translate into real world situations. Humans are imperfect, cops are human, therefore policing will always be imperfect. People today aren’t even upset over the unjust instances, they are mad at any and every publicized situation involving the police and minority groups. So the message is clear: they are not looking for practical solutions. So we need to stop entertaining this notion that we might be able to satisfy the mob. Because it’s never going to happen.

BUT the fact of the matter is no one can agree on what defunding means, plenty have showed their cards and expressed the desire to entirely abolish the police. That said, even the act of defunding without a plan in place has been disastrous. The polices ability to do their jobs has been greatly diminished. Crime skyrocketing. Bottom line, you need more time and training and screening, which requires MORE funding, not less.

If you're in a leaky rowboat in shark infested waters, you repair the leaks, you don't abandon ship. Getting rid of police or neutering their effectiveness is the equivalent to throwing yourself to the sharks.

I just don't want police to have tanks they're not the military. Other than that fund whatever they need but take away the tanks. There are a lot of police departments that are spending more money than they need to like they have to spend their entire budget or they will get their budget cut and I shouldn't be forced into that ultimatum.

ok defund the police doesn't mean literally getting rid of them to the people that coined the phrase.

Defunding meaning they have too much money which also translate to too much power AND too much responsibility.
