Why Mean Girls Wear Pink: The Psychology & Sociology Behind the Trope's Style
In this video, I’ll be explaining why “mean” girls have a girly style and girls who have this style get the stereotype and are often mistaken for mean, dumb, stuck up, etc- even when they clearly aren’t.
I’ll be covering the style, the psychology behind it, sociology of the culture, and a bunch of different characters from iconic media such as Mean Girls, Clueless, Scream Queens, Legally Blonde, The Devil Wears Prada, and more to show that the stereotypes aren’t always true as well as the impact it has on real girls and women.

i personally think being girly can be empowering! some people especially some feminists think feminine is shallow or frivolous. also not only that we're all judged for being concerned w/ how we look but then are harshly judged by how we look.
Pink is my favourite color though lmao
I’m actually really curious If u Can do one on outcasts or more edgy styles from movies. Or the fashion influencing how women are on the opposite end of the “mean girl” level.
You missed one of the biggest traits for these "mean girl" characters… They are extremely wealthy. It's not that you can't dress nice on a budget but lets be fair, you aren't going to look like those girls if you're middle class. The wealth factor is always part of the mean girl story line, and a lot of the time the narcissistic personality comes from being raised in extreme luxury.
well chanel #1 aint weak if she has the balls to push her friend down the stairs murdering her. just girly tings
I love your channel!
the one speaking sounds like karen
This was crazy interesting!
Im in my masters and I really take the time to dress properly–sometimes I dress down in street wear and other days I want to be proper and dress girly but appropriate. People I work with do look down on me and think I'm entitled. That was until a visiting professor made snarky remarks about the other students looks and said: "It looks like only one person takes pride in how they look and how they portray them-self to other people" Does not matter where you work, take the time to dress properly so that people out of your field see you as approachable.
can you do Ko Moon Young from it's okay to not be okay?
umm You forgot Umbridge
Let’s get one thing straight: Elle and Cher are NOT mean
I liked the video, but I didn't like how Cher was portrayed as a mean girl. She was sweet and thoughtful, and everything from helping her friends to doing charity.
The mean girl in my class hates pink.😂
"why mean girls wear pink?"
Bc it's wednesday
Girls are never going to be boys. Just be your own gender and you feel less miserable 🙂 is nature.
I love this video. Everyone mocks “I’m not like other girls” girls. But not enough people talk about how the media literally teaches young girls, and women to hate hyper feminine expression.
google.com
i dress like this. to school i wear head to toe pink, i use purses as a school bag, i even wear heels and wedges! and i have been called extra, bratty, and childish and it’s always by the girls that wear the same ripped jeans, vans, champion t shirts and hoodies every week
uhm wheres courtney shane and jennifer check in this?
Maybe It’s just me, but when I was young… I started to hate Pink because of the BRATZ show. Later in my Teens I was like, “Fck this, Pink looks great on me.”
This is why I love legally blonde! The protagonist is a typical girly girl, wearing pink, feminine clothes and her hair is always perfectly styled, also she is the leader of her popular girl group, were everyone is styled and acts like her. But she breaks the chlichée by being a nice and intelligent person, without losing her girly characteristics. This movie shows how observent people act around women and think they can either be pretty or intelligent.
Adorei 💕💕
Would you be willing to deconstruct/analyse the noise mod scene, the japanese street fashion, techwear and minimalism/modern gothic.
Great video but Cher isn’t a mean girl.
This video is SO good. Way more than I expected and the best I’ve seen in a while.
Really leaves you thinking about sooooo many things. We should learn no to judge or value women (and people in general) by their appearance or style.
but I love pink and I'm not mean ㅠㅠ
I find it disturbing that you group Elle Woods in the "mean girl" trope. She is objectively a sweetheart and spreads positivity. She is the one character who shows girls can be girly and feminine and not be considered a "mean girl".
I wear dresses, lace, florals, heels, makeup, etc. I love pink and pastels. People that don't know me assume I'm mean, stuck up and snobby. In reality I'm shy, introverted, and kind (or at least I try to be). Many feminine girls I know are actually extremely kind, nice and smart. Many women who take care of their looks are actially amazing in their career field. But because of stereotypes anything girly and feminine is seen as negative. I wish we could stop judging people based on stereotypes! The only thing this does is destroying people's confidence about themselves. Damn, wear whatever you want, look however you like, be whoever you like! You don't have to fit in a certain category! If only society could forget labels and accept everyone the way they are without judgement!
01:55 when u trust the wrong person to guard your last pizza slice until you return to the room, that's what your pizza slice sees last.
Isn't it so cringey how it is human nature (of the majority) to replace one stereotype with another?
People conclude someone who dresses in calm/soft styles, behaves classy, as good hearted. Turns out that person was actually toxic.
Instead of learning from that, instead of thinking "I shouldn't judge based on appearance or common behavior, anymore".
They follow the same concept of "judge the book by it's cover" in a reversed manner.
"All women who dress in a soft pastel classy style, have a certain posh attitude, must be bitches".
So wearing pink just means your soft innocent and feminine. Got it.
Ive seen This stereotype in action way too many times at my school. The popular girl offers to be friends with someone who is lonely, and they reject her cause since she’s popular, she must be mean? I honestly don’t get it, why would they be popular if they were mean? I’ve also noticed people’s attitude towards me changing ever since I started wearing more feminine and girly clothes. They always seem to be wary around me. It makes me sad how this stereotype has ruined some people’s friendships.
Can someone tell the name of the Emma Roberts movie?
Why isn’t this a requirement for graduation! 🎓✨👑💅👒👠🎀👛💋💄
I like pink but I'm not Regina George
i love "mean" girl characters fashion, is just so classy and modern, i love the pastel colors
I think Cher is not a mean girl
I love your voice, I can sleep with it
I'm surprised when I reading the comment section how people still thinking like that, I thought people out there already be open minded
I'm so surprised
The truth is that Heather Chandler wore red cause she was the strongest boss bitche, and all that came after her are weaker and THATS WHY they use pink instead of red.
I don't think that elle woods is a mean girl at all honestly !!
I love it. I call it “Power Fierce”😂
Her voice is like perfect for this video. A calm high end fashion editor.
Oh my gosh, love love LOVE 💗💗💗💗💗
